The Tile Store has been a family owned business in Dothan, AL for more than six decades

Sam Moore believed in starting his day with a big breakfast, and working hard until the day’s job was done. With a business degree from Troy University, Sam had his choice of careers and went to work as a bookkeeper for Dixie Tile & Plaster.

When Dixie’s owner retired in 1961, he sold the tile business to Sam, and The Tile Store, Inc. was born. Over the next several years, Sam learned the art of tiling, eventually giving up bookkeeping and focusing full-time on crafting and installing custom tile projects for his customers.

Sam’s sons Thomas, Stanley, and Jason were introduced to tiling at a young age. Thomas started helping his dad with grouting work at the age of eight. By the time young Thomas had grouted every bathroom in the Geneva nursing home, he was officially part of the family business.

Sam worked installing tile until age 75, when he handed the business off to Thomas to manage. By that time, Thomas had been joined by Allen Tanton, a local craftsman with a keen eye for design and detail. Thomas and Allen have continued to work together for over two decades, bringing high end design to homes in southeast Alabama.
